Having made a few big free-agent acquisitions, the Philadelphia Eagles are now anticipating the 2024 NFL Draft. They will probably concentrate on one aspect of the game, namely defense, if it’s anything like what the Eagles have done the past two seasons.
Over the past two drafts, they have selected 12 players, eight of them have been defensive players. This includes Jordan Davis, a defensive tackle from the University of Georgia, and Jalen Carter, a defensive lineman, both of whom were selected in the first round in 2022 and 2023.
The Eagles will probably be leaning toward defense with the No. 22 choice in this year’s draft once again. They’re probably eyeing a slot corner or linebacker from a defensive standpoint. On the offensive side, though, Philadelphia might consider a center or a wide receiver. However, ultimately, it might just come down to who they think is the greatest player still available that deserves to be selected in the first round, with No. 22 going to that person.
Nevertheless, the Eagles ought to select these three guys in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft.
Nate Wiggins, CB, Clemson
The Eagles appear to be heading into a bit of a transition year after losing a number of important players to free agency or retirement, as well as from the way the team finished the previous campaign. In any case, head coach Nick Sirianni is probably hoping the draft will help him make some of the necessary adjustments for the next campaign.
Nate Wiggins, the cornerback for Clemson, is one player who could be of assistance. Yes, Darius Slay and James Bradberry are the Eagles’ two starting corners right now, but they’re also seasoned veterans. Furthermore, Sirianni is probably not comfortable with a few statistics.
The Eagles ranked 30th in the league in opponents’ passing yards (255.7), 32nd in passes per game (38.2), and 30th in points allowed per game (25.6), according to Team Rankings.
Adonai Mitchell, WR, Texas
If Wiggins or even CB Cooper DeJean is out, or if Sirianni and his staff just choose to take a different approach, then maybe this year they will focus more on offensive than defense. Adonai Mitchell of Texas might be available with the 22nd overall selection.
If the Eagles added another target for Jalen Hurts to throw to, it presumably wouldn’t worry new offensive coordinator Kellen Moore. Hurts already has DeVonta Smith, Dallas Goedert, AJ Brown, and running back Saquon Barkley in his possession from free agency. The addition of Mitchell, who may develop into a top wide receiver in the future, might elevate the Philadelphia attack.
Jackson Powers-Johnson, C, Oregon
It was believed that the Eagles had found Jason Kelce’s replacement back in 2022. Naturally, Kelce stayed on for two more seasons, and Jurgens has spent the majority of his time on the field at right guard. Jurgens, on the other hand, has 43 snaps at center and 709 at right guard.
However, AtoZ Sports reports that Sirianni isn’t quite certain that Jurgens will take over for the now-retired Kelce at center just yet. The Eagles will then be in a great position to select a center with their 22nd pick if he isn’t traded. And Jackson Powers-Johnson of Oregon is among the greatest players available and deserving of a first-round selection.
