BALTIMORE RAVENS

Emmanuel Acho’s absurd analysis of the Ravens-Chiefs will enthrall Baltimore supporters.

What is Acho even saying here?

In what is both a rematch of the 2023 AFC Championship game and a meeting of probably the two best teams in the NFL, the Baltimore Ravens will take on Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs, the defending Super Bowl champions, to start the 2024 NFL season.

Lamar Jackson is one of the few quarterbacks in the NFL who can compete head-to-head with Mahomes, thus the Ravens are as prepared as any team to defeat Kansas City. But it appears that Emmanuel Acho thinks one of the league’s strongest rosters has little chance of stopping Mahomes.

On FS1’s Speak, Acho said the Ravens are no longer a threat to the Chiefs in the AFC. While the Ravens may not be as strong top to bottom as they were last season, Acho’s take on their free agent losses is a bit off-base and overreactive.

Acho cites the loss of players like Patrick Queen, Geno Stone, and Jadeveon Clowney in free agency as a major obstacle. That will be problematic, but to imply that 2023 was the Ravens’ best shot at beating the Chiefs despite so many stars on this roster is being overly pessimistic.

Emmanuel Acho’s misguided assessment of the Baltimore Ravens is nonsensical.
Nobody in the NFL is a threat to the Chiefs next season if not the Ravens. With Jackson as their quarterback, the Ravens have an MVP candidate at their disposal. Derrick Henry’s arrival will further elevate their previously lackluster postseason ground attack.

Several starters gone from the finest defense in sports, but a closer examination gives Baltimore a more palatable situation. Only one season over average for Queen occurred, and that was following Roquan Smith’s arrival. The defense won’t collapse completely without Clowney, even though Stone was the team’s third-best safety.

Zach Orr may be the new defensive coordinator for Baltimore, but he comes from the same staff that Mike Macdonald assembled the year before, so there’s a good chance that the formation on that side of the ball won’t change. Still in town are Smith, Kyle Hamilton, and Justin Madubuike—all of whom are among the greatest in their respective fields.

Mahomes’ force multiplier might see the Chiefs take the AFC by storm once more, but despite Acho’s misguided critiques, the Ravens are still as good as anybody in the league to unseat them.
