Fabrizio Romano released an update regarding a £10 million ace, Leeds has been observing for some weeks.

The Whites are in a great position, going into the second half of the season,  and it is hoped that they will improve upon their performance from the previous season.

Even if his team leads the Championship table, Daniel Farke might think this month is a good time to add one or two new players to bolster his roster.

Leeds has been connected to a number of defenders in recent weeks, suggesting that finding a new one is a top priority. Japhet Tanganga of Millwall is one player the Yorkshire team has recently put on their radar.

Wolverhampton Wanderers is also interested in signing the former Tottenham Hotspur player, so Leeds is not the only team after him. Despite rumors that a move might not occur until the summer, Leeds is in the lead to recruit Nico Elvedi from Borussia Monchengladbach in addition to Tanganga. The defender is interesting since he can play both center back and right back, and Farke knows him from his stint as the German team’s manager. But Wolves are also interested in signing Elvedi, just like they are in Tanganga.

Tanganga and Elvedi are two options that the Whites have under consideration, but Leeds have also been linked with Ben Godfrey, and Romano has now reported that he can leave Atalanta this month.

Godfrey  joined the Italian team during the summer transfer window from Everton, in a deal worth £10M. Given that the defender was joining a squad that had recently won the Europa League, it was likely regarded as an exciting transfer. The 26-year-old has only played five games in all competitions, so the move hasn’t lived up to expectations.

Since the opening match of the season, the versatile defender has not made an appearance in Serie A and has failed to start a game. Leeds reportedly expressed interest in acquiring Godfrey in December, although they were up against fierce competition from a number of Premier League teams at the time. Additionally, it was stated that Leeds would only be able to sign the defender if they were a Premier League team, which would require a move to be made as soon as possible in the summer.

Romano has stated that Godfrey can leave Atalanta this month, as he is “no longer key for their project.” Godfrey is under contract with the Italian side until 2029, so it remains in Atalanta’s hands as to what they do about a transfer this month. A loan switch could be an option too.
