Flexible roster gives Wildcats and Calipari a lot of options.

On Saturday, Kentucky overcame No. 14 Alabama thanks to its offensive. For the Wildcats to maintain their momentum into the final two weeks of the regular season, they might need to adopt a different strategy. Following the Wildcats’ 117-95 thumping of the Crimson Tide, Kentucky coach John Calipari remarked, “You have to win games all kinds of different ways.” Calipari has many alternatives when it comes to injuries thanks to Kentucky’s skilled and adaptable squad, a luxury the Wildcats’ coach hasn’t had in a few years.

“The best thing about this group, even a year or two ago, was that if we didn’t have a guy who played poorly, we would put him in and him,” Calipari remarked. “They are not robots or machines; if they played poorly, they played poorly. All of the individuals on our roster are capable basketball players. This season, injuries to a number of players have occasionally forced Calipari to switch up his rotation. Due to a shoulder injury, Tre Mitchell has missed the last three games; however, he should be back shortly.

Two of Kentucky’s final four regular-season games will be away from home, beginning Tuesday night at Mississippi State (19-8, 9-5 SEC). The Bulldogs (19-8, 8-6) have won five straight games, including an 87-67 victory against LSU on Saturday, to hold the longest winning run in the league.
