Following a significant fire close to St. Mary’s Stadium, Southampton’s Championship match was postponed before Sunderland’s match.

Preston and Southampton’s Championship match has been postponed due to a significant fire that started in a structure close to St Mary’s Stadium.

The Saints were scheduled to play at home against Sunderland on Saturday and host Preston on Wednesday night. However, the Preston game has been rescheduled “after consultation with the local authorities and emergency services,” according to a club statement.
Although there have been traffic closures and major disruptions in the vicinity due to the fire, Southampton’s match against Sunderland is still scheduled to take place. The statement from the Saints’ club continued, saying: “We appreciate Preston and the EFL’s assistance, and while we understand the sadness fans may feel, we hope they will understa

of the two clubs initially.
Due to the postponement, Southampton is still eight points behind Ipswich in second place in the Championship standings, with one game remaining. Although Russell Martin’s team defeated Birmingham 4-3 last weekend, they have now dropped their previous three league games. the necessity to put staff and fan safety first.
