Following Roy Keane’s links, the former Man Utd manager is connected to a Sunderland position.

After being out of the game for around three years, a former Manchester United manager is being pushed to return to management.
Following his time out of the game, a former Manchester United manager is being connected to a position in the Championship. The number of former Red Devils with managerial experience may continue to increase as Tom Cleverly took over Watford on an interim basis and joined Michael Carrick in the Championship.

Sunderland has fired two managers this season, Tony Mowbray and Michael Beale, so they are taking their time in the search for a new leader. Currently serving as temporary manager, Mike Dodds will hold the role until the end of the season, with the Black Cats most likely to take over as interim leader.

Accepting a mid-table finish is necessary.

Since the Black Cats are being careful, a lot of names are being linked to the position. The most popular one is still United great Roy Keane, who led the team from the Championship to the Premier League during his successful tenure from 2006 to 2008.

Keane isn’t the only former United player in the running, though. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, a former United player and manager, is the favorite, trailing Will Still, the well-liked Reims manager. After departing the Red Devils in 2021 after three years, the Norwegian has not been in management since then. Throughout his tenure at the club, Solskjaer did not take home any awards. After two stints with his own country’s club Molde on each side of

a fruitless tenure as Cardiff City’s manager during which he supervised the Bluebirds’ drop out of the premier league.

Additionally, Solskjaer led Cardiff to a dismal start to the following season, finishing them in 17th place. This was his previous experience managing in the Championship, and Sunderland may want to take note. Frank Lampard, Scott Parker, and Steve Cooper are reportedly other contenders for the position at the Stadium of Light.
