A football standout from Canyon del Oro High School is realizing his dream of playing for his hometown university.

Kayden Luke, who led the state in rushing yards this past season, has officially committed to the University of Arizona.

“I always had a feeling deep down that this would happen at some point,” Luke expressed. “I wasn’t certain, but I believed in it, and now it’s become a reality.”

Luke amassed an impressive 2,307 rushing yards this season, guiding CDO to its fourth 4A State Title.

“I’m eager to see how he stacks up against other running backs at the University of Arizona,” remarked Luke’s former coach, Dustin Peace. “If there’s anyone tougher than him in that running back room, I’d like to meet them.”

Since the beginning of UA Spring Football in recent weeks, Luke has been closely watching the practice sessions.

“He’s had his sights set on U of A for a long time,” Peace noted. “What’s particularly admirable is his loyalty. In today’s era, we see players entering the transfer portal, but Kayden doesn’t grasp that concept. Loyalty runs deep for him.”

Luke will be eligible to join official practices with the Wildcats starting on May 29.

“I’m just eager to get started, that’s all,” Luke expressed. “I can’t wait to hit the field, and I’m incredibly grateful for this opportunity.”
