Former Blackburn Rovers manager Jon Dahl Tomasson on departure and Sweden opportunity

Jon Dahl Tomasson talked about leaving Rovers at his first press conference as manager of Sweden.

Less than a month after his time at Ewood Park ended, Tomasson was appointed by the Swedish FA on Monday.

“I left Blackburn because of the challenging circumstances,” he remarked. Naturally, the budget was slashed. The reason was that I joined up for a project that was modified.

As a player who captained Denmark, Tomasson has a wealth of experience in international football. After hanging up his boots, he also served as assistant coach for a while.

The 47-year-old is eagerly anticipating the challenges that lie ahead and is determined for his Sweden side to adopt an attacking approach and captivate the fans.

“As a former player and captain for Denmark, and with experience as an assistant coach for the Danish national team, I have a deep connection to international football,” he remarked. “Being involved in national football fills you with pride and is a tremendous honor.”

“National team football operates on a different timetable compared to club football,” he explained. “However, it offers the opportunity to embark on a new chapter, which is something I am thrilled to be a part of.”

“When I look at the Swedish team, I see a wealth of talent,” he emphasized. “I aspire to bring excitement to the fans through positive football. I advocate for an approach where everyone can sense the joy in the players’ performance. They should relish playing 90 minutes with intensity and a positive mindset.”

Tomasson’s appointment marks the first time a foreigner has taken charge of the Swedish national team, although he enjoyed success during his tenure at Malmo.

“I anticipate there will always be skeptics; that’s just part of life and football,” he acknowledged.

“People don’t always have to agree; that’s the great thing about football: there are a lot of different opinions.”

The players and the supporters are attempting to develop something together in the first place so that we may feel a part of a new place and a fresh beginning.

Later this month, Sweden will play two friendlies against Portugal and Sweden. Prior to the start of the Nations League the following season, they also play Denmark and Serbia in June.
