Jackson Powers-Johnson is widely regarded as the top center prospect in the 2024 NFL draft. However, how much this status will benefit the former Oregon Ducks’ star in the upcoming draft, which commences Thursday, remains uncertain.

While the center position is typically less valued compared to tackles and guards along the offensive line, teams consistently seek reliable centers, and Powers-Johnson appears to fulfill all the necessary criteria. This is why Yahoo Sports’ Charles McDonald and Nate Tice predict Powers-Johnson to be selected in the first round, envisioning him being drafted by the Dallas Cowboys at No. 31 following a mock trade with the San Francisco 49ers.

Having traded back, Dallas now has the chance to secure a highly skilled player in Powers-Johnson, addressing a significant area of need for the team. With the departure of veteran center Tyler Biadasz, who signed with the Washington Commanders in free agency for a lucrative three-year deal potentially worth up to $30 million, the Cowboys find themselves with just one center on the roster – Brock Hoffman, who has only started two games in his first two seasons.

Consequently, the center position becomes a top priority for the team, with many mock drafts predicting Dallas to select a center in the first round. Powers-Johnson’s potential pairing with Pro Bowl guard Tyler Smith could form a formidable duo along the offensive line for the Cowboys.
