Dalano Banton found himself in his Boston apartment one February afternoon, enjoying some downtime, when he received an unexpected call. On the other end was Brad Stevens, the president of basketball operations for the Celtics. Banton, a former Raptors guard, instantly understood the implication.
With just about 20 minutes to spare before the NBA’s 3 p.m. deadline, Banton received the news that he was being traded for the first time in his career. The destination? The Portland Trail Blazers, in exchange for a heavily protected second-round draft pick.
