The retained lists of EFL teams will be made public at the conclusion of the 2023–2024 season.

After just 56 days of joining the Addicks, former Sunderland striker Connor Wickham was released by League One team Charlton.

On March 8, the 31-year-old signed a short-term contract that would last until the conclusion of the season and moved into The Valley. After that, Wickham played in just four games for Charlton, who placed 16th in the standings, scoring one goal in a 1-1 tie with Cambridge.

Wickham was without a club since the conclusion of the previous campaign, having left Cardiff. After moving from Ipswich to Sunderland in 2011, the striker made 91 appearances for the team before agreeing to a four-year contract with Crystal Palace. While he was a member of the Black Cats, he also participated in loan games for Leeds and Sheffield Wednesday.

Additionally, Charlton has announced that George Dobson, a former midfielder for Sunderland, will be leaving the team after declining several contract offers to remain at The Valley. Instead, the 26-year-old midfielder has committed to the Hungarian club Fehervar through a pre-contract deal.
