Chris Sale is poised to confront his previous team as the Atlanta Braves host the Boston Red Sox on Wednesday. Having clinched a World Series victory with Boston in 2018, it’s understandably a poignant moment for the seasoned starting pitcher.

Reflecting on the upcoming match, Sale expressed, “It’s more than just a group of baseball players on the field. I forged significant connections with everyone there. There’s immense admiration and gratitude for all of them. They stood by me during crucial times, something I’ll always cherish and never overlook.”

Sale made significant contributions to the Red Sox, securing the American League Cy Young Award twice in 2017 and 2018. He served as the team’s ace during their triumphant 2018 World Series campaign, notably closing out the clinching game against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Despite his achievements, Sale faced challenges with the Red Sox following the 2018 season.

Following his extension with the Red Sox, the subsequent five seasons proved challenging for Sale. In 2019, signs of regression emerged as he posted a 4.40 ERA in 25 starts, signaling potential injury concerns. His absence in 2020 was attributed to an ulnar collateral ligament injury, sidelining him for a significant portion of the 2021 season as well.

Sale returned in 2021, starting nine games and maintaining a 3.16 ERA. However, his 2022 season was limited to just two games due to various injuries, including a rib and finger injury. Lastly, in 2023, Sale battled a shoulder injury, appearing in 20 games and registering a 4.30 ERA.
