‍Florida’s standout pitcher, Hurston Waldrep, is set to make his debut in Major League Baseball on Sunday, representing the Atlanta Braves against the Washington Nationals. This milestone will mark Waldrep as the 85th player from the University of Florida to enter the MLB, and he joins the ranks of successful athletes under coach Kevin O’Sullivan, being the 33rd to do so since 2008.

Waldrep’s journey from college to the big leagues began after being drafted by the Braves in 2023, following a stellar season with the Florida Gators. Despite his relatively short time in professional baseball, Waldrep has already showcased his talent by swiftly climbing from Single-A to Triple-A, boasting an impressive ERA and strikeout rate.

During his time at Florida, Waldrep played a crucial role in the team’s success, contributing to their SEC Title and a spot in the College World Series Finals, while also earning individual accolades for his outstanding performance on the mound.
