When asked if Aryna Sabalenka’s withdrawal from Wimbledon benefited her, Coco Gauff responded that, as far as she was concerned, it didn’t. Sabalenka, known for her strong grass-court game and current form, was considered a top contender for this year’s Wimbledon, given her past performances at the tournament. Gauff acknowledged Sabalenka’s prowess, recalling their US Open final last year where she narrowly defeated the Belarusian in three sets.

During her press conference at SW19, the 20-year-old expressed disappointment about Sabalenka’s withdrawal from Wimbledon, describing it as a shame. However, she dismissed any notion that it might benefit her in any way.

“I mean, I probably wouldn’t have played her until the semis. So, at that point, it’s just like,             this is semi-finals of  the Grand Slam, no matter who you play, it’s going to be a tough person to     play. But it is unfortunate that she had to pull out.”
