As the Giants prepare to end another disappointing season, they’re reflecting on moves made in the offseason that could’ve impacted the team.

According to ESPN’s Jordan Ranaan, several players admitted that letting RB Saquon Barkley sign with the Eagles hurt the Giants.

“I think they understood it but maybe just didn’t cherish it enough because we had two of them leave — [Barkley and wide receiver Sterling Shepard],” second-year quarterback Tommy DeVito said, via ESPN. “Two guys that were among the most vocal leaders on the offense, guys that have played a ton.

“Those two guys meant a tremendous amount, but obviously Saquon is my guy. He kind of helped bring me into this whole role and how everything went down. He was kind of my rock through it all. To see him go and how it went down, it was tough. Obviously, it’s a business as well.”

Barkley signed a three-year, $37.75 million contract with the Eagles after the Giants were unable to agree on an extension last season.

As the 27-year-old running back is competing for his first MVP award, Philadelphia is currently reaping the benefits of the agreement. DeVito wasn’t the only Giants player who was saddened by Barkley’s passing. Daniel Bellinger, a tight end, also discussed Barkley’s influence on the team both on and off the field.
