Southampton is gearing up to face Preston North End on Wednesday, aiming to maintain their recent winning momentum, crucial for their push for automatic promotion. The team, managed by Russell Martin, currently trails second-placed Ipswich Town by eight points and needs to secure a win against Preston to stay in contention.

Despite the demanding nature of the season, Southampton has been relatively fortunate with injuries lately. However, there are updates on the fitness of key players Kyle Walker-Peters and Ryan Fraser.

Kyle Walker-Peters, a pivotal player for Southampton, is likely to miss the upcoming game after sustaining an injury during the FA Cup defeat against Liverpool. Manager Martin has provided an update, expressing hope for Walker-Peters’ involvement in the next match on Saturday, though it might come too soon.

As for Ryan Fraser, who’s on loan from Newcastle United, he’s expected to be sidelined until the end of the month due to an injury. The postponement of the Leicester City FA Cup game benefits Fraser, potentially reducing the number of matches he’ll miss.

Ross Stewart, plagued by injuries since November, is unlikely to feature for the rest of the season. Martin emphasized the need for Stewart to undergo a full pre-season to ensure his long-term fitness.

Juan Larios, facing setbacks due to an injury, hasn’t played at all this season. Martin revealed that Larios will remain sidelined for a couple more months due to the setback, expressing frustration for the player who has been unfortunate with injuries despite his talent and dedication.
