Hawthorn’s Ambitious Moves for 2025: Major Signings and Trade Suggestions.

The Hawthorn Hawks will advance far in the 2025 season, even if they lost to Port Adelaide in the semi-finals. Josh Battle of St Kilda has made a significant move, selecting Hawthorn as his preferred destination for the coming year. Sam Mitchell’s team is expected to benefit greatly from this addition, which addresses the team’s prior weaknesses in critical areas. The ace of the West Coast Eagles, Tom Barrass, has asked to be traded to Hawthorn, and the Hawks are interested in him as well. Barrass might come at a high cost, possibly requiring the loss of two first-round selections and a probable second-round pick, according to Jay Clark of the Herald Sun. Barrass and Battle would both take care of vital Hawks needs, despite the exorbitant asking price.

To their list of possible additions, the Hawks have also expressed interest in Giants defender Harry Perryman. Perryman has apparently received a sizable contract offer from the team, but it will still be difficult to sign all three players—Battle, Barrass, and Perryman.

In the meantime, rumors are circulating that Bulldogs player Bailey Smith may relocate to Geelong rather than Hawthorn. Along with these roster adjustments, the Hawks will also see some changes: small forward Chad Wingard will retire after 218 games, while Denver Grainger-Barras’s future with the team is in doubt.

Ruckman Ned Reeves was demoted by former Docker Lloyd Meek in 2024, however he is still under contract until 2026, thus he could be considered for transfer. However, senior players Jack Gunston and Luke Breust have signed one-year contracts and will still be useful to the team. The Hawks are undoubtedly preparing for a more competitive season in 2025 with these changes.
