The four-day prospect showcase, known as the inaugural MLB Spring Breakout, is quickly approaching, and the rosters have been finalized. When the two clubs play on March 14, fans will witness a rematch between Orioles prospect Jackson Holliday and Pirates prospect Paul Skenes.
Holliday News Articles Roster for Orioles Spring Breakout
Holliday is one of the 24 Baltimore Orioles prospects participating in the first-ever prospect showcase. It should come as no surprise that the Orioles have a strong Spring Breakout squad given their elite prospect system in the league. Along with Holliday in Bradenton are fifteen Orioles Top 30 prospects and fellow Top 100 prospects Samuel Basallo and Coby Mayo.
Skenes will face Holliday twice this spring if he starts for the Pirates in the seven-inning exhibition game. When the Pirates and Orioles met in Sarasota on February 29, the two top prospects first faced each other. Holliday hit leadoff as Skenes took the mound for his first Spring Training start. Holliday began the bottom of the first inning by grounding out on Skenes’s second pitch.
Due to his elbow stress fracture recovery, MLB #177 Samuel Basallo has not yet participated in a game this spring. The first baseman/catcher is hoping to play at Spring Breakout after taking part in live batting practice earlier this week. Conversely, MLB #30 infielder Coby Mayo is slashing. In just six games this spring, 417/.563/.667.
