Hibs coach Nick Montgomery gives update on crocked January signing

Despite Owen Bevan’s lack of playing time for the Hibees in January, Hibs manager Nick Montgomery is eager to have him return to Easter Road this summer. The Wales Under-21 international was signed by the club on a six-month loan, but the club announced today that he has been freed to return to parent club Bournemouth due to an injury setback that would have required the center-half to be out of commission for at least eight weeks.

However, there will be many chances for Monty to select some of the brightest Cherries prospects, since Hibs shareholders are expected to approve Bournemouth owner Bill Foley’s involvement in the team at next Tuesday’s AGM. Additionally, he stated that Bevan will continue to be on his mind.

“Yeah, he’s a player we’re definitely keen on bringing to the club,” said Montgomery. “So we’ll just monitor that situation.

“Hopefully he can get himself fit from that injury towards the end of the season. And, yeah, we’ll definitely keep an eye on that situation.”

A Hibs team severely lacking in central defense cover due to injuries and international commitments in January—left back Jordan Obita was even forced to play center-half during the team’s home loss to Rangers—the arrival of Bevan was considered vital. Nectar Triantis, a mid-season transfer from Montgomery of Central Coast, is a promising player for Sunderland. However, since joining the team during the window, he has had a rough start to Scottish football. Paul Hanlon, the club captain, has also recovered from a recent illness, while Rocky Bushiri’s return from AFCON action with the Democratic Republic of the Congo gives Hibs options.
