Hibs injury news ahead of derby against Hearts

on

This week, Hearts and Hibs will play at Tynecastle, a significant matchup. Who will win?

Prior to the game, the two sides have distinct goals in mind. Hosts Steven Naismith want to move up to 14 points above Kilmarnock, who are now in fourth place, while Nick Montgomery’s team wants to finish in the top six.

Hearts’ winning streak came to an end on Saturday with a 5-0 loss to Rangers, and Hibs are heading to Gorgie fresh off a 2-1 victory against Dundee that lifted spirits. The season’s first derby finished in a 2-2 draw, but Naismith’s squad won 1-0 last time around thanks to a thrilling goal from Lawrence Shankland.

In a match that rarely holds back when it comes to emotion, both teams and sets of supporters will be vying for the same three points. Here is the most recent Hibs team news before to kickoff.

1. Jake Doyle Hayes (Ankle injury) – OUT

The Irishman hasn’t played for the team since coming on as a substitute in the first leg of the Europa Conference League play-off tie against his previous team, Aston Villa, and he has also missed the team’s last three decisive Premiership games.

Despite missing a significant portion of the season and only making three appearances between the beginning of October and the beginning of April, Doyle-Hayes only played 19 times for Hibs in the previous campaign. This was despite a hiatus for the 2022 World Cup. After being crocked by then-manager Lee Johnson during a training session, he had surgery to address an ankle issue that had been bothering him. He returned to play in eight of the remaining ten games.

2. Josh Campbell (Ankle injury) – OUT

The 23-year-old midfielder suffered a fractured bone and will require a prolonged period of time on the sidelines after being knocked out in an unexpected collision with teammate Dylan Levitt. It has been disclosed by the club that the midfield player will not need surgery, but he will miss at least 12 weeks of action. It is anticipated that this time frame may be extended, contingent upon how quickly the injury heals and how well the rehabilitation goes.

The player, who has made 21 appearances this season but has found it difficult to establish a spot in boss Nick Montgomery’s plans, is suffering a serious setback. More playing time in December had been awarded for two goals in November. However, it is currently unknown how much he will appear before the season ends.

3. Chris Cadden (Achilles tendon) – DOUBT

Chris Cadden explains new Hibs role as defender reveals Lee Johnson request

While Chris Cadden is recovering from an injury, Hibs are unable to estimate when he will be back.

During the Edinburgh Derby on the penultimate day of the previous season, the right-back injured his Achilles tendon against Hearts, which kept him out of action for the majority of this year. A social media video of the 27-year-old’s teammates applauding him when he returned to the grass during training has gone viral.

However, there are drawbacks to coming back from these protracted, severe layoffs, and players must proceed cautiously to avoid hurting themselves or any other muscles that aren’t accustomed to the level of play they will be returning to. Manager Nick Montgomery is hesitant to schedule a date with Cadden because of this.
