The NFL, as we all know, essentially has no “offseason” now. Even when no games are being played, the train continues to move.

Following the conclusion of playoff competition, the NFL Scouting Combine takes place at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Indiana, from February 27 to March 4.

The 2024 NFL season officially begins on March 13 with the opening of free agency.

The timeline below provides a clear picture of what’s ahead throughout this busy offseason.

Pro Bowl games are on February 4.

Super Bowl LVIII (allegiant stadium, Las Vegas, NV) on February 11.

February 20: Teams may begin designating Franchise/Transition players.

NFL Scouting Combine, February 27–March 4 (Lucas Oil Stadium, Indianapolis, IN).

March 5: Before 4 p.m. New York time, teams must identify their Franchise/Transition players.

Period of free-agency negotiations is March 11–13. Teams may get in touch with and negotiate contracts with the certified agents of players who will become unrestricted free agents on March 13 at 4:00 p.m. New York time when their 2023 player contracts expire during the window that opens at 12:00 noon on March 11 and closes at 3:59:59 p.m. on March 13.

A prospective UFA who is not represented by an NFLPA Certified Contract Advisor (“Unrepresented Player”) may speak with front office representatives of a new club directly about contract negotiations during the aforementioned two-day period (with the exception of the head coach and other members of the coaching staff). Verifying the player’s status as an Unrepresented Player is the club’s responsibility.

No potential unrestricted free agent may sign a contract with a different team before March 13 at 4:00 p.m., New York time.

March 13: League Year End/Start. At 4 p.m. New York time, the 2024 League Year and free-agency period start. Teams can sign free agents and start making trades.

Annual League Meeting, Orlando, Florida, March 24-27.

April 15: Teams with head coaches returning can start their offseason training regimens.

The deadline for teams to visit, time, test, interview, or physically examine a player who is eligible for the draft at their club is April 17.

The deadline to sign offer papers for restricted free agents is April 19.

2024 NFL Draft (Detroit, Michigan, April 25–27).

May 2 is the deadline for clubs to use a player taken in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft to exercise their fifth-year option.
