On the day of the Manchester derby, Pep Guardiola gave a significant hint about his long-term future at the Etihad by saying he wants to be like Sir Alex Ferguson.

Pep Guardiola’s goal is to create Manchester City’s equivalent of the Class of 92.

On the eve of the Manchester derby, Guardiola—who only has 18 months left on his City contract—dropped a major hint that his long-term future might be at the Etihad by saying he wants to follow in Sir Alex Ferguson’s footsteps by developing a homegrown galaxy of stars to rival the accomplishments of Ryan Giggs, David Beckham, and company.

The face of City’s academy is Phil Foden. Oscar Bobb and Rico Lewis have followed similar paths, but young

while young players like Jacob Wright and Micah Hamilton have also made an impact on the starting lineup.

But Guardiola, who led Barcelona to two Champions League victories in three seasons with a team that featured Andreas Iniesta, Xavi, and Lionel Messi, all graduates of La Masia, wants more.
“We would love it,” Guardiola remarked. When we played United in the Champions League finals in Barcelona, I recall that seven of the players were from the academy.

What does that signify? Zero in that we didn’t make any money because we didn’t sell them despite how amazing they were! That is the dream, though. Players that were born here, who adore the club.

“Due to the skill level of foreign players, sometimes it’s not feasible. Norwegian Erling Haaland is a native. Erling from the academy is someone we’d really like to have, but it costs money. In the past year, we have sold a number of young players who help us remain viable. They might be able to play here, but we’ll never know. They wanted to play right then and there.

“Academy players have something special that works every time; I don’t know why.” Since Sheikh Mansour acquired the team in 2008, City has made significant transfers.

However, they also spent £200 million building a cutting-edge training facility with an academy that has paid off handsomely.

In addition to selling players like Cole Palmer, Jadon Sancho, Romeo Lavia, James Trafford, and Brahim Diaz to raise money in order to comply with financial requirements, City has won three straight Premier League 2 titles. In the past ten years, the sales of domestic players have raised £325 million, of which £165 million has been generated in the last three seasons.

Guardiola feels that City offers the best football education available, which facilitates the rapid integration of academy graduates into his team.

“What strikes me most is how well-educated they are,” he remarked. Not only their abilities. It matters how they act, how respectful they are, and how well they listen. When they make their debut, they act entirely differently than if they were a senior player.

That has significant meaning. The academy is the source of that. The managers are the source of that. They don’t play when they act badly. to begin to realize that what matters most is the club. nor your mother or father, nor your agent, and I apologize. The most significant is Man City.

It involves resilience, a strong work ethic, and punctuality. Attend class and act appropriately. Do your homework and pay attention to your teachers. At this point, you improve both as a player and a person. About that, there are no secrets.

“It always works when you run with young players,” Guardiola continued. I’m not sure why, but it always seems to work. It took place here, at the Barcelona academy, in Madrid, and even at Bayern Munich.

And it’s a means of sustainability now that Financial Fair Play is in place. They have visited the Etihad Stadium numerous times. They adjust more quickly since they can see the surroundings and smell what is going on in the club.

“Players from different teams or foreign players arrive, and they require some time to adjust. It feels like home here. They feel at ease, they understand the audience’s response, and they play with speed and accuracy. They may think that “it’s mine, it’s my home,” and that’s what I think. They get confidence from making the first team after leaving the academy.
