The beef in the Backyard Brawl never ends.

Every year at this time, schools all over the nation start to disclose their football schedules for the upcoming season. This gives digital media departments a chance to show off their creative side by revealing the teams and dates of their games.

Pitt’s social media staff used the schedule release as an occasion to make subtle jabs at West Virginia, as there is always some back-and-forth between the two schools around here.

Three members of the Pitt football team went on a shopping trip to Giant Eagle and went through different parts of the store to reveal each week’s opponent. For WVU, they had a man wearing a coonskin cap walking past one of the players in an aisle who shook his head as he walked by. It wasn’t that big of a deal. But what Pitt’s social media team posted under the video is where the jab comes in.

They posted a picture of their mascot, Roc the Panther, holding the “receipt” with the full schedule. In very small print, it says Discount -0.01 under the date for the West Virginia game, which is set for September 14th. Nearly two decades later, Pitt still can’t stop referencing the game from 2007.
