WNBA icon Sheryl Swoopes has been paying close attention to the Indiana Fever as they prepare for the 2025 season. While she previously had some questions about Caitlin Clark’s abilities, she now believes the Fever are in an excellent position to make a deep playoff run, possibly even contending for a championship.
Swoopes, speaking with ESPNW, highlighted the Fever’s offseason moves, noting that they made some of the smartest roster decisions in the league. After securing a playoff spot last season for the first time since 2016, the team appears to have strengthened its lineup with key acquisitions, including DeWanna Bonner and Natasha Howard. These additions, she emphasized, provide much-needed defensive prowess, complementing the growing talents of Aliyah Boston and the offensive firepower of Kelsey Mitchell, whom she described as “a walking bucket.”
One of the biggest factors in the Fever’s potential success, according to Swoopes, is Caitlin Clark’s growth during the offseason. She pointed out that Clark has noticeably improved, both in terms of physical strength and overall skill set. “You can tell she spent serious time in the gym refining her game,” Swoopes remarked. This dedication to improvement, combined with the Fever’s enhanced roster, sets the stage for an exciting season.
A major change for the team is the transition in leadership, as Stephanie White steps in as head coach, replacing Christie Sides. With about half the roster reshaped and a new coaching strategy in place, the Fever are aiming to build on their momentum from last year. Their previous season ended with a balanced 20-20 record, earning Clark the Rookie of the Year title and First-Team All-WNBA honors, while both Boston and Mitchell were recognized as All-Stars.
With all these strategic adjustments, Swoopes is eager to see how the Fever will perform. She believes the team has the right mix of experienced veterans and rising stars to make a strong push toward championship contention. As the 2025 WNBA season unfolds, all eyes will be on Indiana to see if they can turn their offseason preparations into a winning reality.
