INJURY UPDATE: Following an injury against Huddersfield Town, a Sunderland star may potentially be out.

Sunderland’s injury concerns have increased following their 1-0 loss to Huddersfield Town on the previous evening.

Sunderland had been unbeaten in three games, but after maintaining their dismal away record, they suddenly seem to be back to square one despite a good run of success.

The Black Cats have now lost six and drawn four away games since September, with just one victory to their credit.

Michael Beale’s team put on a very lackluster and “annoying” performance, failing to muster any attacking threat or spark throughout the contest.

In an attempt to find an equalizer, the head coach initially decided to bench Patrick Roberts and give Abdoullah Ba another chance out wide. However, he then decided to switch the two.

The winger continued to have two shots and make one crucial pass, but Sunderland’s situation worsened when he was substituted late in the game.

Roberts headed directly into the tunnel, and with Beale having squandered his three substitution options, Sunderland had to play the remainder of the match with ten men.

Roberts might be sidelined for some time as he hasn’t played since his injury against Middlesbrough earlier this month.

Journalist Phil Smith of the Sunderland Echo reports that Michael Beale expressed concern following the game that he might have the same hamstring problem that sidelined him for nearly a month.

Roberts was substituted out after just 15 minutes of play against Rotherham United in December, and he did not return for the Black Cats for the following five games.

He started against Plymouth, his first game back since his return, and had a great chance to play right away against Birmingham City, but the team will now have to wait and see how serious his latest injury setback is.

When playing Birmingham City, who should start?
Even though Patrick Roberts hasn’t yet made an impact this term, his loss is nevertheless significant. I continue to believe he offers far more than Abdoullah Ba, and his absence of late has been painfully apparent.

Romaine Mundle seemed like he could cause some difficulty this evening, even though he was a little chaotic. As a result, he might be given an opportunity to play against the Blues.

Whatever occurs, something has to change; we can’t continue to rely solely on Jack Clarke to create a situation.

If Tony Mowbray beats us too, it’s going to be a long weekend. The only bright spot before the trip to the Midlands may be Alex Pritchard’s probable absence.
