Over the weekend, Jontae Gilbert, the defensive back from Atlanta Douglass High School, took an official visit to Louisville.

Atlanta (Ga.) Douglass defensive back Jontae Gilbert spent his weekend on an official visit with the Cardinals in Louisville. As one of two highly regarded prospects to visit over the weekend, the four-star recruit was impressed by his experience in the Derby City.

This visit marked a return for the 6-foot-1, 185-pound Gilbert, and it proved to be even more enlightening than his previous unofficial visit.

“I had a fantastic time,” Gilbert shared with Cardinal Authority. “You know, it was even better this time. I went there in the spring, and that was good. But this time, it was even better, so that was great.”

During his latest visit, a significant change was that Jontae Gilbert had his family with him, allowing them to meet the coaching staff, tour the facilities, explore the city, and more.

“Having my family there was the most important thing,” Gilbert explained. “That’s all I wanted. They got to experience it, feel the vibe, and they loved it.”

Gilbert shares a connection with the Louisville staff through former UofL linebacker Daniel Brown, who coaches at Douglass High.

“The coaches have a lot of love for me,” Gilbert remarked. “Coach English, who used to coach with Daniel Brown at my school, really believes in me. He sees me playing all five positions in the secondary… he appreciates my versatility. And he keeps it real with me.”

Louisville marks the first of five upcoming official visits for Gilbert. He has scheduled visits with UCF (May 31), South Carolina (June 7), Georgia State (June 21), and NC State (Sept. 27). Understanding the program’s vision for him is crucial for his decision-making process.

“I really want to understand their plans for me,” Gilbert stated. “Player development and building relationships with the coaches are essential.”

Louisville seems to have impressed Gilbert in these aspects during his visit.

“After that visit, Louisville is definitely in my top three schools,” Gilbert confirmed.

Ranked as the No. 120 overall prospect and the No. 13 cornerback in the 2025 class by 247Sports, Gilbert has set a commitment date of Oct. 19.

Apart from the schools he plans to visit, Gilbert holds scholarship offers from numerous other prestigious programs, including Alabama, Clemson, Georgia, LSU, Ohio State, and USC.

There are currently two Crystal Ball projections in favor of Clemson, both made in December.
