Is Pep making a smart decision by considering a €150 million offer for an AC Milan star?

Manchester City is reportedly prepared to shatter their transfer record by offering approximately €150 million to acquire AC Milan winger Rafael Leao in the upcoming summer transfer window, according to Fichajes. Pep Guardiola has long been an admirer of the attacker and had expressed interest in signing him last summer.

Despite earlier interest from Chelsea and PSG, both clubs are now hesitant to pursue Rafael Leao. Chelsea lacks the financial means to secure the deal, while PSG is prioritizing the signing of a new striker to replace Kylian Mbappe, rather than focusing on a left-winger like Leao.

Rafael Leao is currently recognized as one of the top-tier wingers in the world of football. He began his professional journey with Sporting CP before transferring to Lille. Subsequently, AC Milan secured his services on a five-year deal for a transfer fee of €35 million in 2019.

The 24-year-old forward has showcased his talent this season, scoring nine goals and providing 10 assists in 34 appearances. Despite his solid performance, his market value hasn’t seen a significant increase. With an average of 1.8 shots, 1.5 key passes, and 2.2 dribbles per game, Leao’s strengths lie in his rapid pace, effective dribbling, and clinical finishing. While he could enhance his defensive contributions, his creativity makes him an attractive prospect for any team. Recently, he signed a contract with AC Milan containing a €175 million release clause.

Manchester City’s interest in Leao intensified after AC Milan turned down their €100 million offer for him. Although City secured Jeremy Doku in the summer to bolster their left-wing position, the player’s recent performances have left room for improvement. Acquiring Leao would provide a significant upgrade for City in that position. However, negotiations with AC Milan must result in a reasonable transfer fee for the deal to materialize.
