Sam Brown, Jacolby George, and Xavier Restrepo, who transferred from Houston to Miami, form the lone trio of wide receivers within the ACC who each amassed 800 yards in receptions during the 2023 season. With quarterback Cam Ward and running back Damien Martinez distributing passes, Miami anticipates a potent offense in 2024. Brown recorded 62 catches for 815 yards and three touchdowns for Houston last year.
George, the second top receiver for Miami, secured 57 receptions for 864 yards and led the team with eight touchdowns. Restrepo established a new single-season record for Miami with 85 receptions, totaling 1,092 yards and six touchdowns. Brown adds depth to Miami’s receiving corps, boasting 33 crucial first-down receptions, 20 catches for over 25 yards, and seven for 25 yards or more. George also contributed with 33 first downs, 18 catches for 15 or more yards, and 12 for 25 yards or more in 2023.
Restrepo contributed 52 first downs, 32 catches for over 15 yards, and 10 for 25 yards or more. Brown and George are expected to be the primary deep threats for Miami in 2024, while Restrepo will likely operate in the slot, focusing on intermediate routes. Isaiah Horton and JoJo Trader are slated as the main backups at the wide receiver position.

Before the acquisition of Brown, Horton was anticipated to be Miami’s third starting wide receiver, having tallied 13 receptions for 168 yards and one touchdown in 2023. Standing at 6’4″, Horton is the tallest receiver on the Miami roster. However, if Brown, George, and Restrepo remain healthy, they are expected to receive the majority of snaps.
Behind Restrepo, sophomore Nathaniel Joseph shows promise as the starting slot receiver, with offensive coordinator Shannon Dawson likely to devise strategies to involve Joseph more. Additionally, Carr, Chance Robinson, and Bobby Washington provide depth at the wide receiver position. Miami ranked 43rd nationally in 2023 with an average of 258.0 passing yards per game.
With the addition of Brown and Ward, along with the return of George and Restrepo, Miami’s passing offense is expected to flourish. Martinez’s presence provides balance in the running game alongside Mark Fletcher. Consequently, Miami is anticipated to see significant offensive improvement in 2024.
