Wales manager Rob Page expressed his surprise at the criticism he’s faced for including Aaron Ramsey in this month’s national team squad, asserting that the midfielder is fit and capable of making a difference.

Despite being named in the squad, Ramsey remained on the bench as Wales secured a 4-1 victory over Finland, setting up a crucial play-off match against Poland for Euro 2024 qualification. The 33-year-old midfielder had recently returned to action for Cardiff City, featuring as a substitute in their 2-0 loss to Swansea after being sidelined for six games due to a calf injury. However, Bluebirds manager Erol Bulut expressed dissatisfaction with Wales’ decision to select Ramsey without prior consultation.

Aaron Ramsey, the former Arsenal midfielder, has featured in only nine Championship matches for Cardiff this season due to various injuries, with the Bluebirds gearing up for their upcoming fixture against Sunderland next week. Despite his limited appearances, Wales manager Rob Page dismissed any doubts regarding Ramsey’s fitness before the Finland match, affirming that the player was prepared to contribute positively if called upon.
