ITS STRANGE: In a bruising 32-minute triumph in the French Open final, Steffi Graf humbled her opponent with an uncommon score.

This year at the French Open, Iga Switek has been compared to Steffi Graf a lot as she destroys some of her rivals.

Few players have been able to challenge Swiatek on the red clay, where she has previously won three Roland Garros titles.

The Polish player destroyed Anastasia Potapova 6-0 6-0 earlier in the competition in just forty minutes. The second-fastest ever match at Roland Garros.

Graf, who famously humiliated a rival in just 32 minutes, is ranked #1.

Oh, and the French Open final from 1988 is the match in which she double-bagged Natasha Zvereva.

The fact that Graf only dropped 13 points over the entire game may be the most telling statistic of all. It was the first double bagel in a Grand Slam final since the 1911 Wimbledon women’s final.

Even she was a bit embarrassed by how dominant she was, saying at the time: “One thing I’m sorry about for the public is that it went so fast. I can’t remember a match I won 6-0, 6-0 in a long time, but today, everything went well.”

A crestfallen 17-year-old Zvereva shed some tears during her press conference.

“I wasn’t in the match. It was just a bad game, bad play,” she was quoted as saying by the New York Times.

Graf herself was just 18 at the time, but she was comfortably the best player in tennis at that point.

Graf completed an unprecedented Golden Calendar Slam

She accomplished the unheard-of Golden Calendar Slam in 1988 by winning the Olympics and all four major titles in the same year.

Graf stated in the Los Angeles Times, “I’m very excited that I achieved this now.” I believe that not many individuals will be able to accomplish it after me. It’s incredible.

Since the German, no one other has even approached that feat.

She went on to become one of the best players of all time, winning a total of 22 Grand Slam titles.

With only 23 years old, Swiatek herself has a chance to win her sixth Grand Slam championship.
