Jadeveon Clowney, a native of Rock Hill, South Carolina, is excited to bring his “prove-it” mindset to his hometown team, the Carolina Panthers, following a disappointing stint with the Cleveland Browns in 2022.

The three-time Pro Bowler recently signed a lucrative two-year contract worth $20 million, potentially rising to $24 million with sack-based incentives. This deal comes after he matched his career-high sack total of 9.5 with the Baltimore Ravens last season, which he referred to as his “Kobe [Bryant] year.”

Clowney, 31, emphasized the importance of staying healthy and being available for games, acknowledging his injury history. He hadn’t played a full season since 2017 but managed to achieve success in 2023 by focusing on his physical well-being.

Last season, Clowney switched to jersey number 24 as a symbol of personal growth, akin to Kobe Bryant’s transition from No. 8 to 24. This change marked a fresh start after a challenging period with the Browns, during which he felt undervalued compared to teammate Myles Garrett.

Despite the setbacks in Cleveland, Clowney’s standout performance in Baltimore made him a sought-after free agent, with the Panthers ultimately securing his services. His decision to join Carolina was influenced by his proximity to Charlotte, his college football roots at South Carolina, and his admiration for former Panther Julius Peppers.

Clowney is optimistic about the Panthers’ potential, even after a dismal 2-15 season in 2023. He believes they have the talent to compete in the NFC South and aims to recruit former teammate Stephon Gilmore to bolster the defense.

With a renewed sense of purpose and a desire to prove himself, Clowney sees his return to Carolina as a chance to fulfill a lifelong dream.
