The Toronto Raptors’ team hand surgeon has been quite busy recently. Raptors center Jakob Poeltl will be out indefinitely after undergoing surgery to repair a ligament tear in the fifth finger of his left hand, as announced by the team on Tuesday. There is no specified timeline for his recovery, but given the Raptors’ slim chances of making the postseason, it’s unlikely he will return to play this season.

Adding to their injury concerns, the Raptors are already missing Scottie Barnes, who underwent finger surgery last week. Poeltl sustained his hand injury during the second quarter of Sunday’s victory over the Charlotte Hornets.

Poeltl, aged 28, has been averaging 11.1 points, 8.6 rebounds, and 2.5 assists per game this season. With the team’s acquisition and extension of big man Kelly Olynyk, we can expect to see more of him in action during the remainder of the season. The Raptors, currently with a record of 23-39, occupy the 12th spot in the Eastern Conference standings, trailing the Atlanta Hawks by 4.5 games for the final play-in spot.
