Jason Demetriou, a former player for Wakefield Trinity, was fired as South Sydney Rabbitohs coach today, Tuesday.

In addition to spending time with the Lancashire Lynx, Rochdale Hornets, Widnes Vikings, and Keighley Cougars, Demetriou, 48, was a player for Trinity from 2004 to 2010. Between 2011 and 2012, he was the coach of the Cougars, and then he went back to Australia.

He was assistant boss of the North Queensland Cowboys, St George-Illawarra Dragons, Brisbane Broncos, and Rabbitohs after managing Queensland Cup team Northern Pride. He had taken over as head coach at the beginning of 2022.

Having lost six of their first seven games this season, Souths are currently bottom of the NRL standings. “Needs to go in a new direction with its coaching following a less-than-satisfactory series of results over the 2023 and 2024 seasons,” the club stated in a statement announcing Demetriou’s departure.
