Jason Dunstall, a revered figure in Hawthorn’s history, is set to join the elite ranks of the Australian Football Hall of Fame as the 32nd player to be elevated to Legend status.

Dunstall’s remarkable career saw him finish as the third-highest goalkicker in VFL/AFL history, behind only Tony Lockett and Gordon Coventry. His prolific scoring ability saw him reach the coveted 100-goal mark in six seasons, with a personal best of 145 goals in 1992, a year in which he also kicked 17 goals in a single game against Richmond.

Beyond his on-field achievements, Dunstall’s leadership as captain of the Hawks and his subsequent transition into media have further solidified his status in the football community.

Expressing gratitude for the honor, Dunstall remarked on the significance of being recognized among a select group of Legends in the game. He attributed much of his success to the talented teammates who supported him throughout his career.

AFL Commission chair Richard Goyder hailed Dunstall’s contributions to the sport, highlighting his exceptional goal-scoring prowess and his place among the game’s great forwards. Goyder emphasized Dunstall’s legacy as a four-time premiership player, three-time Coleman Medallist, and 12-time leading goalkicker for Hawthorn.

Dunstall’s elevation to Legend status is a fitting tribute to his outstanding achievements and his enduring impact on Australian rules football.
