INDIANAPOLIS COLTS
Jaylin Simpson of the Indianapolis Colts is confident that his experience in the Southeastern Conference (SEC) has prepared him well for life in the NFL.
Indianapolis Colts rookie defensive back Jaylin Simpson believes that his experience playing in high-stakes college games has equipped him for the challenges of weekly contests in the NFL.
In the middle of Day 3 of the 2024 NFL Draft, the Indianapolis Colts had yet to address their secondary needs, which were a top priority coming into the draft. They sought to bolster their cornerback and safety positions after a challenging 2023 season, where the group faced difficulties. With no external additions made until the draft, it was anticipated that the Colts would reinforce their secondary soon.
The Colts eventually selected Jaylin Simpson with the 164th overall pick in the draft. Simpson, who spent five years at Auburn University, had confidence in being drafted but felt relieved when he received the call from the Colts. Expressing gratitude and readiness to prove himself, Simpson acknowledged that he still has much to demonstrate and is eager to contribute to the team.
Having competed in the Southeastern Conference (SEC), widely regarded as one of the most competitive in college football, Simpson gained valuable experience facing top-tier opponents. He thrived under the pressure of big games and high-level competition, which he believes has prepared him well for the challenges of the NFL. Simpson’s exposure to elite talent in college instilled in him a mindset focused on competition and performance.
Given the level of competition he encountered in the SEC, Simpson anticipates a smoother transition to the NFL compared to other rookies. He believes that facing top quarterbacks and wide receivers regularly has equipped him to make an immediate impact at the professional level. Simpson’s versatility in playing various roles in the secondary during his college career, coupled with his athleticism and skill set, positions him as a valuable addition to the Colts’ cornerback room. He is prepared to contribute on special teams and is open to playing safety if required, showcasing his adaptability and willingness to contribute in any capacity.
With his extensive experience in one of college football’s toughest conferences, Simpson is poised to make significant contributions to the Colts from the outset of his NFL career.
