Roma has sacked manager Jose Mourinho following a series of disappointing results and disciplinary issues. The decision comes after Roma’s 3-1 defeat to AC Milan, making it only one win in their past six league games.

Mourinho joined Roma in May 2021 and led them to the Europa Conference League title in 2022, marking their first European trophy since 1961. However, recent performances, including a Coppa Italia loss to Lazio, and disciplinary problems, including Mourinho’s dismissal in consecutive matches, contributed to the decision.

In a statement, Roma owners Dan and Ryan Friedkin expressed gratitude for Mourinho’s passion and efforts but emphasized the need for an immediate change. Mourinho’s contract was set to expire at the end of the season, but the decision for an early departure was made. Mourinho, known for his successful spells at Chelsea, Real Madrid, and Manchester United, had accumulated a total of five red cards during the 2023-24 season, raising concerns about disciplinary issues.

Roma currently sits in ninth place in Serie A, and the owners believe that a change is necessary for the club’s best interests. Mourinho’s departure comes amid speculation about his future, and the decision underscores the challenges faced by the club, both on and off the pitch.
