The Championship match between Leeds United and Leicester City was of an exceptionally high caliber, and Jurgen Klopp, the manager of Liverpool, was impressed.

Leeds enjoyed an incredible weekend last weekend, although it may have been overshadowed by events at Wembley during the EFL Cup Final.

After extra time, Liverpool defeated Chelsea, ensuring that Jurgen Klopp’s final season will end with at least one prize in the trophy cabinet.
The German was watching Leeds take on Leicester at Elland Road on Friday night, despite having to concentrate on getting his team ready for a crucial cup final against Chelsea.

After Leeds’ exciting 3-1 victory that saw the two finest teams in the Championship square off, Klopp was astounded by what he saw in the lower division.

Speaking ahead of his team’s Wednesday night matchup against Southampton, he expressed his admiration for the level of play in the Championship (via LFC):

“I adore the Championship; last week, I watched Leeds vs. Leicester. Whoa.

“The level of football play in the Championship is ridiculously high.”

“Recently, I saw West Brom, a true football team. additionally in Ipswich. The league is really challenging.

Daniel Farke, a fellow countryman of Klopp, is hoping to lead Leeds to victory in the Championship for a third time, having won twice with Norwich City. Leeds has a stronger team currently, but they are also in a more difficult promotion chase.
After the victory over Leicester, Farke gave an interview in which he acknowledged that this particular matchup was the closest he has yet been able to play against a Premier League opponent.

Instead of being caught off guard twice by a Norwich team that isn’t good enough at defending, Farke seems to be planning ahead for a potential promotion to the top flight this season by using transitions and a strong rest defense in the Championship.

Regarding the Championship standard for this season, Klopp is correct.

Liverpool will undoubtedly play a team that is not typical of the Championship when they take on Southampton tomorrow night in a sticky match.

Klopp is implying that the quality of the promotion race this season has been exceptional and above and above what is typical for this league.

Beyond just the teams, the second-tier coaches are of an amazing caliber. Players like Michael Carrick, Mark Robins, Kieran McKenna, Liam Rosenior, Carlos Corberan, Enzo Maresca, and Russell Martin would all be worthy candidates for Premier League positions in the future.
