JUST IN: Craig Berube is considering adding Doug Gilmour to his coaching staff.

It’s time that Maple Leafs legend Doug Gilmour joined Toronto’s coaching staff and Craig Berube may even have room for him if the Leafs clean house behind the bench.

The beloved Leafs legend has always been an incredible ambassador for the city and for the sport of hockey and it’s clear he has love for the fans. It’s time that Gilmour takes on a bigger role with the club.

Gilmour, or ‘Killer’, as his former teammates call him, was an absolute animal for the Leafs in the playoffs. Most notably, the Leafs legend put up a dazzling 35 points in 21 GP in the 92-93 post-season.

With a lot of questions surrounding the existing coaching staff in Toronto and new head coach Craig Berube at the helm, doesn’t it feel like the appropriate time for Gilmour to step in and play a role in helping this team get over the hump in the playoffs as someone who has been on deep runs with this team in the past?

Gilmour, the franchise’s all-time record holder for most points in a single season (127) would certainly have the instant respect of everyone in the locker room, which is not always the case when a new coach comes in.

For Berube, I’m sure he’d welcome the idea of having someone from his era on board to help send a message to some of these younger guys now who may not quite understand what it takes to win in the playoffs.

It really does seem that the last time the Leafs actually made strides in the playoffs was during the Gilmour era, so who better to mentor young Toronto Maple Leafs stars, than a former star who actually produced and won in the playoffs?
