JUST IN: Emergency protocol created in case of Coventry City vs. Wembley match

Coventry City news from CoventryLive: The Sky Blues still have a lot of games left this season and are competitive both in the FA Cup quarterfinals and the play-offs.

Football administrators had to create a backup plan in case the FA Cup final and the Championship play-offs coincide.

The Championship play-off final is scheduled to take place at the national stadium 24 hours after the FA Cup final, which is confirmed to take place at Wembley on Saturday, May 25. However, Coventry City and Leicester have the potential to meet each other in the Championship play-offs and are still in the FA Cup, which has created the possibility of a date change.

With two games remaining to play, championship leaders Leicester will play Chelsea in their FA Cup quarterfinal on Sunday. Both the Sky Blues and Leicester, who have recently seen a dip in their performance, have a chance to qualify for the playoffs.

In the FA Cup last eight, Coventry will meet Wolves on Saturday under the direction of manager Mark Robins. The team is still in the running for the Championship play-offs this year. One of the most anticipated events of the year is the Championship play-off final, which is frequently referred to as football’s £100 million match.

However, a matchup might arise if either City or the Foxes advance far in the FA Cup, and Wembley backup dates have been added to the calendar. The Championship play-off final would have to be moved, although in an emergency, it’s thought that there may be room to move the match, according to the Mirror.

This year, it is more challenging since on Saturday, June 1, Wembley will host the Champions League final. The stadium will essentially be turned over to UEFA before and after the Champions League final. As a result, England will have to go to St James’s Park on Monday, June 3, to play one of their Euro warm-up matches against Bosnia & Herzegovina.

On June 7, they take on Iceland at Wembley. Although the Football Association maintains that all parties were consulted, it is evident that the decision was made with the understanding that a Championship team would not likely advance to the FA Cup final.

The last Championship team to go to the FA Cup final was Portsmouth of the Premier League, who defeated Cardiff City in 2008. Since then, football organizers have been betting that this unlikely scenario will not repeat.
