Emma Raducanu will not participate in the Ningbo Open next week as she continues her recovery. The 21-year-old has had to withdraw from several tournaments after sustaining an injury at the Korea Open last month.

Raducanu sprained ligaments in her foot during her match against Daria Kasatkina, forcing her to retire in the first set. She subsequently pulled out of the China Open in Beijing and the Wuhan Open, which is ongoing this week.

Now, Raducanu has confirmed that she won’t compete at the Ningbo Open and is instead aiming to return for the Hong Kong Open on October 28, her last opportunity to play before the Billie Jean King Cup Finals.

Fitness has been a challenge for Raducanu since undergoing hand and ankle surgeries last year. She has played in only three tournaments since Wimbledon, opting to skip several events leading up to the US Open.

Despite her earlier intention to participate in more tournaments before the year ends, things haven’t gone as planned. Last month, Raducanu expressed her hope to play as many matches as possible, saying: “As long as I’m healthy, I’m going to try and finish the season strong. I’ve barely played any matches since the grass season, even in practice, so the experience can only help me in the coming weeks.”

Her focus now is on playing matches and working on her game where possible.
