JUST IN: Maple Leafs reportedly make very frustrating decision regarding Domi and Bertuzzi

James Mirtle and Jonas Siegel of The Athletic provided a surprising update on Maple Leafs wingers Max Domi and Tyler Bertuzzi ahead of free agency.

Now that the season is officially over, the off-season is in full swing with the buyout window opening, the draft over the weekend followed by free agency on Monday.
The Toronto Maple Leafs and GM Brad Treliving were hoping to get a jump on free agency by re-signing Bertuzzi and Domi to extensions and have held continuous talks with the pair. Unfortunately, they have been unable to come to terms with either player.
In their article for The Athletic today, Mirtle and Siegel provided a disappointing update regarding those extension talks.
“The Leafs aren’t against bringing Bertuzzi and Domi back but want to keep the bulk of their cap space available heading into July 1st for defense,” they wrote. “Their return to Toronto may hinge on being able to circle back after the initial wave of UFA signings takes place around the league on Monday.”
While fans would like to see both players back with the Leafs, it is possible that neither will be back. If they are unable to bring both back, there are a number of suitable replacements that will be available.
Regardless, we will know about their futures with the club within the next week.
