During the Big Game, Indianapolis Colts supporters will recognize a few players on the field.

Over a hundred million people will be tuning in to Super Bowl LVIII on Sunday to witness the winner between the San Francisco 49ers and the Kansas City Chiefs.

The Chiefs, under the direction of quarterback Patrick Mahomes and head coach Andy Reid, are attempting to win their third Super Bowl in the previous five years. The 49ers, headed by quarterback Brock Purdy and head coach Kyle Shanahan, are hoping to exact revenge on the Chiefs for losing to them in Super Bowl LVI and win a ring of their own.

Even though the Indianapolis Colts won’t be playing this weekend, Colts supporters might recognize some players on the field. When all is said and done on Sunday night, three former Colts players on the 49ers roster have a chance to win the Super Bowl.

George Odum S.

George Odum played for the Colts from 2018 to 2021 for the first four years of his NFL career. Odum rose to prominence in Indianapolis on special teams, earning a spot on the First Team All-Pro roster in 2020. In his last season with the Colts, Odum started seven games, but he was unable to lock down a starting job.

In 65 games (10 starts) with the Colts, Odum recorded 150 tackles, two interceptions, four forced fumbles, and four passes defensed. Odum joined the 49ers in the spring of 2022 after leaving the Colts. Despite not having started a game with the Niners, he is still an elite special teams player and was selected to the Second Team All-Pro team in 2022.

Odum might not get much defensive playing time on Sunday, but don’t be shocked if he contributes significantly to the 49ers’ special teams.

Matt Pryor, OL

Before the 2021 season, Pryor was traded for by general manager Chris Ballard to the Colts, where he played for two seasons. Pryor shown excellent play in 2021 at several offensive line spots, giving the Colts hope that he would open the 2022 season as the team’s left tackle. The outcome was entirely different; Pryor struggled tremendously and was benched by midseason.

Pro Football Focus reports that in the 34 games that Pryor started with the Colts, he gave up six sacks, 27 hurries, and 39 pressures. In 2023, Pryor signed a free agent contract with the 49ers to serve as an offensive line depth player. This season, he has made six appearances and 42 snaps.

With any luck, Pryor won’t play on Sunday unless there’s an injury on the offensive line. If he enters the game, though, those will be the most significant moments of his life.
