The Texas Tech football program’s third spring game under head coach Joey McGuire will take place at 1 p.m. on April 20 at Astound Broadband Stadium in Midland. Tech Athletics released this information in a news release on Friday.

Since Jones AT&T Stadium is still undergoing renovation, the annual spring game has been moved to the Permian Basin. According to Tech Athletics, this is a big step because it brings together one of Tech’s largest alumni bases and is the first time the event has been held there since 2019.

Expressing his enthusiasm for the decision, McGuire stated in the news release, “This has been a goal of ours since I accepted the job here at Texas Tech. The Permian Basin is such a vital area for us, not only from a recruiting perspective but also due to the large alumni base that is so dedicated to this university. We look forward to bringing our team back to Midland for what I’m sure will be a memorable experience.”

Despite the spring game taking place in Midland, the Red Raiders will conduct their remaining 14 practices at Jones AT&T Stadium or the practice fields adjacent to the Sports Performance Center. It’s important to note that these practices will not be open to the general public, except for members of the Texas High School Coaches Association.
