JUST IN: Two games of suspension might be imposed on Sunderland players ahead of their matches against Southampton and QPR.

After serving a two-game suspension, Mike Dodds is expected to welcome back defender Dan Ballard for the match against Leicester City.

Ballard had ten yellow cards during the season and was suspended for games against Swansea City and Norwich City. However, two of Ballard’s defensive colleagues are also balancing their own disciplinary issues.

Both first-choice right-back Trai Hume and stand-in captain Luke O’Nien have nine yellow cards as of Tuesday night’s Championship match at the Stadium of Light. Should either player receive a caution, they will miss the matches against Southampton and QPR.

Players who receive 10 bookings up until and including the 37th league game of the season will be suspended for two matches, according to EFL regulations. Prior to their meeting against the Foxes this week, Sunderland has played 35 Championship games; their 37th being on Saturday, March 9 away at Southampton.
