West Coast Eagles rising star Harley Reid expressed his pride in continuing the legacy of the team’s No. 9 jersey as his career takes off following a stellar debut season.
The young midfielder from Tongala, Victoria, has made a significant impact in the AFL, becoming a central figure in the Eagles’ rebuilding efforts and restoring hope among fans. Selected as the No. 1 pick in last year’s draft, Reid received a guernsey worn by many talented players in the past.
“The history is immense, and it’s a privilege to wear that number. Having Nic Naitanui present my jumper and then turning it around was a memorable moment on draft night,” Reid shared with Channel 7’s The Front Bar. “I feel honored to take on No. 9, especially when you see the names like Peter Wilson, Ben Cousins, and Nic Nat in my locker.”
At just 19, Reid has faced considerable attention, making over 30 appearances on the back page of *The West Australian* in his first year. However, West Coast legend Ben Cousins, who also appeared on *The Front Bar*, praised Reid for handling the intense spotlight with maturity.
