Supporters of Sunderland FC may be closely monitoring Amad Diallo of Manchester United this season, as his results may have an impact on his availability come summertime.

After an excellent season with the Black Cats the previous year, Diallo returned to United in the summer to compete for a spot in the starting lineup. But injuries have diminished his prospects, and now the Ivorian is attempting to push his way through.

Although United will give him opportunities in the Premier League going forward, his playing time and output may determine whether or not the Black Cats can pursue him in the summer.

According to reports, Diallo desired a January move to Sunderland.

Football Insider claims state that Diallo requested to join Sunderland during the January transfer window, rather than stay at United.

Due to a preseason injury that kept him out for several months, the Ivorian played very little before Christmas, and it appeared that he would have a difficult time breaking into the first team.

But according to reports, once Jadon Sancho left the team on loan to Borussia Dortmund in January, United would not let him leave the team. Instead, they wanted to evaluate how well he performed on the right side while acclimating him to the team.

He stayed with the team after the transfer window closed, and he might still be a key player for the Red Devils in the future.

According to Carlton Palmer, Sunderland is the front-runner to sign Diallo.

EFL analyst Carlton Palmer offered his opinion on the possibility of a transfer agreement between Sunderland and United.

He implied that, except for his injury issues, Diallo would have returned to Sunderland on loan this summer, and that the Black Cats are still keeping an eye on a possible deal in the hopes of being the first to sign the player should one materialize.

Palmer informed Football League World that Sunderland “tried to land Manchester United sensation Amad Diallo once again on loan.”

“Diallo thrilled the crowd by lighting up the Stadium of Light the previous season. He was a revelation in the Championship the previous year.”

“He was supposed to return to Sunderland on loan this summer, but he got injured,” he continued. At this point in the season, he is healthy and prepared to battle for a starting spot at Manchester United.

“Sunderland tried in vain to see if there was any hope but they played it right, didn’t burn any bridges, and I’m sure if he’s loaned out in the future, Sunderland will be amongst the frontrunners.”

His performance over the remainder of the season will be monitored by the club.

For the remainder of the season, the Wearsiders will be closely monitoring Diallo’s play in the hopes that the Black Cats will be able to acquire the winger as early as next summer.

The Chronicle Live revealed last month that Sunderland sporting director Kristjaan Speakman was in regular communication with United on a possible agreement for Diallo.

He stated that the club was still in talks with United regarding the player’s future, even though no trade happened. If that was the case before January, you would think the North East team would want to monitor the situation in order to pick up the conversation again later.

The Ivory Coast international’s play during his time with the team the previous season undoubtedly impressed the Black Cats. In a season that saw them place sixth in the standings, Diallo was one of their standout performers with 14 goals and 4 assists.

Despite his lack of playing time for his team this season, the Ivorian still has plenty of time to prove he deserves a spot in the starting lineup.

In order to give Diallo more room to shine, United loaned out winger Facundo Pellestri to Granada until the end of the season when Jadon Sancho left the team.

Despite not coming off the bench in Sunday’s 3-0 United triumph over West Ham, he supposedly had encouraging talks about his future with Erik Ten Hag back in January.

According to Fabrizio Romano, the reason Diallo stayed at the club in January was because they trusted him. As he moves up the hierarchy within the team, more game time at Old Trafford will be available to Diallo.

If he makes an impression, Sunderland might not have the opportunity to work with him again, but if he doesn’t have much of an impact, the Black Cats might want to revisit the matter come summertime.

Since Diallo has said that they are the only Championship team he would join, they stand a good chance of being the first to sign him if he does decide to leave Old Trafford in the near future. However, it is possible that any future loans will go to Premier League teams, which would give the Black Cats even more incentive to sign him if necessary.
