JUST NOW: Sulphurites head to the County Ground in pursuit of another first in Swindon Town vs. Harrogate Town.

This weekend, Harrogate Town travels to Swindon in hopes of securing another League Two first.

The Sulphurites are having their most successful season yet in the Football League, flirting with the play-offs and winning their first games against teams they have never defeated, like Sutton United and Colchester United, and finally defeating the hated Salford City.

They will be looking to defeat the Robins at the County Ground for the first time ever in order to maintain their lead over the top seven teams in the division on Saturday.

Both of their previous trips resulted in a 3-0 loss and a 1-1 tie; however, considering the teams’ relative results thus far, Town will go into Swindon as clear favorites this time around.

Although Mike Flynn’s team is currently closer to the drop zone than the top half of the table, Harrogate, in 12th place, was in a play-off spot as recently as last Saturday and has the third-best away record in the fourth tier with 28 points (eight wins, four draws) from 17 road games.

Furthermore, it will not sit well with Robins supporters for a team of Swindon’s caliber and size to be sitting in 17th position as early as mid-February, with little left to play for but pride, even though they do not appear to be in real danger of being drawn into a relegation dogfight.

Their recent performance has been inconsistent; although they have won just one of their previous six games, the Sulphurites’ 3-1 victory over Tranmere Rovers on Tuesday was their first in six.

Town started slowly but finished pretty strongly when the sides last met, Jack Muldoon’s precise finish from the edge of the box earning them a 1-1 draw at Wetherby Road earlier this term.

Sulphurites boss Simon Weaver.

With two wins to Harrogate’s one, Swindon leads the head-to-head series overall. The Sulphurites triumphed 3-0 at home on opening day of the previous season, but lost badly 4-1 the year prior.
