Rangers F.C

Kenny McLean’s potential suitors could secure £40 million, a stark contrast from their unsuccessful £4 million bid for the Rangers target just one year ago.

Kenny McLean might be the experienced player Philippe Clement desires at Rangers. The Belgian manager emphasized this week that the club’s transfer strategy will shift after initially targeting several young talents early in the window.

As Rangers face the departure of nearly 750 combined appearances from their squad, the need for experienced players is evident. One player extensively linked, the English Championship Player of the Year, could fill this void. However, as Rangers reportedly show interest in Kenny McLean, who has a strong connection to the club since childhood, their potential transfer competitors may soon need to address a significant gap of £40 million.

Clubs eyeing Kenny McLean set to cash in on transfer windfall
While Rangers have frequently been linked with Kenny McLean, other clubs have also shown interest in the Scottish international over the years. Despite his strong ties to Rangers, last summer Leeds United were reportedly eager to lure the 32-year-old midfielder to Elland Road as Daniel Farke revamped the team’s midfield.

Last summer, Leeds United’s £4 million bid for Kenny McLean was rejected, prompting Norwich City to secure his future with a long-term contract extending potentially until 2026. Leeds subsequently signed Bulgarian international Ilia Gruev and Rangers midfielder Glen Kamara, narrowly missing out on promotion in the Championship Playoff Final against Southampton.

With promotion still a goal for Leeds next season, the club is once again looking to bolster its midfield options this summer. Glen Kamara is reportedly a target for Ligue 1 clubs, and Leeds is set to receive a substantial £40 million from Tottenham Hotspur for the transfer of 18-year-old midfielder Archie Gray, considered one of the brightest talents in British football. Fabrizio Romano suggests that Ange Postecoglou is poised to invest further in strengthening the squad.

Rangers still lead hunt

Rangers fans might be feeling a bit uneasy about Kenny McLean’s situation with Norwich City. The Canaries anticipate that potential suitors for McLean will need to meet their asking price, and a move for the midfielder doesn’t quite align with Rangers’ current player trading strategy.

If it boils down to a straightforward financial competition, Norwich City would likely come out on top. The positive aspect is that, despite Leeds manager Daniel Farke’s admiration for McLean, there haven’t been any new transfer rumors linking him to the midfielder this window.

However, with Leeds facing the prospect of losing two key midfielders from last season, Rangers supporters will undoubtedly keep a close eye on developments. Norwich City fans, on the other hand, all seem to share a similar sentiment regarding the Rangers links.
