Kevin Huerter suffers left shoulder dislocation, OUT vs. Toronto.

Kevin Huerter, the starting shooting guard for the Sacramento Kings, might not be available for some time.

Huerter is listed as out for Wednesday’s game against the Toronto Raptors due to a dislocated left shoulder, per the Kings’ injury report.

After a play close to Sacramento’s basket on Tuesday, Huerter was injured in the first minutes of Golden 1 Center’s victory over the Memphis Grizzlies. The guard was assisted to the locker room.

Huerter’s return to action is unknown at this time, although NBA players who have dislocated their shoulders typically need weeks to months to heal rather than days.

Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry missed three weeks of the 2022–2023 season because of a subluxation, which is a “mild version of a dislocated shoulder.”

After dislocating his right shoulder on January 27, New York Knicks forward Julius Randle is gradually making his way back to playing, though season-ending surgery is still a possibility.

Since every injury is unique, it may take some time until “Red Velvet” rejoins the lineup for Sacramento. It is presently uncertain how long Huerter will be out of the lineup.

More about Kevin Huerter, the guard for the Kings
Just two minutes into Monday’s game against the Grizzlies, Memphis player Desmond Bane intentionally fouled to stop Huerter’s fast-break potential. It appeared that Bane hurt Huerter’s left arm.

With 10:09 remaining in the first quarter, Bane’s right arm collided with Huerter’s left arm as the guard was rising off for a lay-in attempt. This resulted in a foul call.

After crashing to the ground, Huerter grasped his left wrist while the guard was being attended to by Sacramento’s training staff. Huerter was declared out of the game after a few minutes after being assisted to the locker room while wearing a towel over his left wrist and arm.

In lieu of Huerter, who was being evaluated to ascertain the extent of his injuries, second-year guard Keon Ellis took on a heavier workload against the Grizzlies.

Ellis scored five points, pulled down seven boards, recorded one steal, and swatted five shots in a career-high 33 minutes of action, which included 11 minutes in the fourth quarter and all five minutes in overtime.

Even for some of the NBA’s best shot-blockers, collecting five blocks in a single game is no small accomplishment, but Ellis showed off against Memphis while playing most of the night against high-scoring guard Desmond Bane.

Throughout the course of 7:34 of the game, Ellis recorded four of his five blocks against Bane, holding the Grizzlies guard to four points on one of his six (16% FG) shots. Ellis is an Alabama product.

Head coach Mike Brown stated that Ellis would start as the starting two-guard in the event that Huerter missed time after Monday’s game, but he had no update on Huerter’s condition.

“I haven’t received an update yet, so I’m not sure how long Kevin [will be out],” Brown stated. “Keon was obviously started in the second half, and he will stay at the starting position until Kevin returns or we decide to change course.”

When will the Sacramento Kings play next?
Starting on Wednesday night, Sacramento will travel to play three games, starting against the Toronto Raptors.

Domantas Sabonis scored 24 points, grabbed 15 rebounds, and dished out 11 assists to help the Kings defeat Toronto 135–130 at Golden 1 Center on January 5. Keegan Murray also had a double-double that night (18 points and 12 rebounds).

Sacramento has a 4-6 record at Scotiabank Arena since the 2013–14 season began, including 2-4 throughout the previous six seasons.
