Knee injuries force Dockers veterans into preseason surgery

Due to minor knee problems, remantle veterans Michael Walters and Nat Fyfe have had to postpone their preseason preparations. Walters is recuperating from a similar procedure, while Fyfe is scheduled to have arthroscopic surgery on Thursday.

The goal of both surgeries is to make sure they are ready for the 2025 campaign.

After a surgical assessment, it was decided that some loose bodies should be removed via arthroscope to assist stabilize the knee, even though a scan after an event during Fyfe’s weekend training showed no severe cartilage or meniscus injury.

“These bodies can continue to cause issues and surgical removal can provide the most predictable outcome to avoid ongoing symptoms,” said Executive General Manager of Football Joe Brierty.

“Nat’s recovery is dependent on how quickly the knee settles but if all goes well, he will resume strength work and cross-training within a fortnight.”

Over the Christmas break, veteran striker Michael Walters underwent a similar operation after having his right knee arthroscoped. Walters is anticipated to return to the football program within the next two weeks, having recovered well.

“Michael also had an arthroscope completed over the break following some on-going symptoms in his knee,” Brierty said.

“Pleasingly he has recovered well and the plan is to resume in the football program over the next couple of weeks.”
